A further open letter to the religious leaders of Southport

May 10th 2025

Your silence is deafening

We, the Southport Friends of Palestine, are writing to you once again, this time to ask why you have remained silent and unresponsive to our requests for public support of our protest against the apartheid regime in Israel and the genocide occurring in Gaza and violence in the West Bank.

We are sure that you are aware that since our last request for you to support us Israel has stopped all aid reaching the Palestinian people in Gaza – for over two months now no medical supplies, no food nor water have been allowed to reach the population of over 2 million children, women and men sheltering in makeshift camps.

Where is the sense of outrage? Where are the demands for relief?

Where are the calls for compassion?

We are witnessing unrelenting crimes against humanity on a
daily basis – where is your leadership and guidance?

The teachings of all major faiths uphold justice, compassion, and the sanctity of human life. As such, we are demanding that you reaffirm your support for peace by publicly condemning the ongoing violence and calling for an immediate cessation of hostilities.

“If you are neutral in situations of injustice,
you have chosen the side of the oppressor”

We also reiterate our call for a united interfaith statement, endorsed by you the religious leaders across Southport, to demonstrate a collective commitment to peace. Such a statement would send a powerful message of solidarity and hope, showing that our communities stand firm in the pursuit of justice and reconciliation.

We continue to welcome any opportunity to meet and discuss how we can work together to stop this genocide.
We can be contacted via email southportfriendsofpalestine@gmail.com
or via our website www.southportfriendsofpalestine.co.uk
