Pax Christi calls for Israeli release of Dr Hussam Abu Safiya

Dear Catholic Clergy, fellow members of Catholic Peace Movement Pax Christi, my fellow campaigners for justice for all, my family and friends,

Last Thursday, Liverpool members of Pax Christi staged a call outside BBC Radio Merseyside, for the urgent release by Israel, of kidnapped Gaza Hospital Director, Dr Hussam Abu Safiya. Dr Safiya was kidnapped, and has been held for 18months, beaten, tortured, without adequate food or medical treatment, he has been hit on the head with a hammer and it is feared he has a brain injury.  To ‘deserve’ such appalling ill-treatment, his only ‘crime’ was that he and his team provided hospital care for the injured men, women and children of Gaza, the very patients that Israel is intent on murdering.  The Doctor’s life is in imminent danger.  Israel has already murdered his son.

Those around the world with any influence must use that influence to demand that Israel releases this courageous doctor, who has risked his own life to save others.
