Behaviour Guidelines at SFOP Demo’s

Guidelines in the event of  disruption at one of our protests

  • Be vigilant and if you see disruption try to remain calm.

  • If there is any physical violence, phone the police.

If you find yourself in a tense situation eg: you are approached by a casual passer by who disagrees with your protest;

  • Stay calm and keep your voice steady, your aim is to make a point, not provoke.

  • Avoid provocative behaviour.

  • If necessary, walk away and remove yourself from the situation.

If you observe a situation like this, don’t be tempted to join in. Rather stand close to the person who is being shouted at in order to witness the situation, and to offer support. Dissuade others from giving any attention to the abuser.

If there is an agitator or agitators hanging around the protest, don’t engage. Again don’t provide an audience.

Try to make sure someone who is comfortable can be called on to interact quietly in conversation - shouting back and getting angry only escalates a situation.

Film these interactions or photograph the agitator.

As soon as possible after the incident send details - date, time, place, details of what was said/done and pictures to southportfriendsofpalestine@gmail.com where they will be stored as evidence, should it be needed.
