It Started as a Small Thought: Introducing A Gathering for Palestine

It started as a small thought shared amongst just a few of us. The gathering, or set of consecutive pages, usually printed on a single sheet of paper and folded together, is the basic building block of all books produced during the hand-press period. In this spirit of a deliberate hand crafted creation, we asked for submissions for our own Gathering for Palestine.

What we have produced is more than just a book, A Gathering for Palestine is our attempt at a living archive, a chorus of voices, and an act of preservation. Conceived amid the ongoing humanitarian crises and a growing global call for justice, this compilation brings together a variety of voices in a collective expression of solidarity with the Palestinian people.

"A Gathering for Palestine is not meant to speak for anyone, but to gather with everyone willing to listen, reflect, and remember, we feel what we have produced is like the gatherings of the hand-press era, a book that is both fragile and strong—fragile in its pages, but strong in the communities and truths it holds together.

Southport Friends of Palestine is an organisation that aims to support the Palestinian people’s struggle for freedom, justice and equality.

We raise awareness of the history, traditions and culture of Palestine, challenging misinformation where we can.

We demonstrate peacefully and campaign for:

• An end to the military occupation of Palestine by Israel

• The right of self-determination for the Palestinian people

• The right to return and / or reparation to the Palestinian people.
